Cinderella Opera

Mrs Hall organised a whole school trip to the Arts Centre in Melbourne to see an opera performance of Cinderella.

We read lots of different versions of Cinderella, and made different outfits for her and the prince to wear when working, dancing at the ball and getting married.

Before we went Mrs Radcliffe played some of the music from the opera for the Preps on the piano. 2G were visited by Penny and Peter who came and demonstrated some of the different musical instruments that might be in the orchestra.

On the day we all went up on the bus to the Arts Centre. We had our lunch outside then had a look at the arts display before sitting in the audience with another school for the opera. It was very loud and they sang in French.

Moving Machines

2G finished off our integrated topic by using all the knowledge we’ve gathered this term to create some machines with moving parts using Lego Technic, cogs, wheels, pulleys and gears.

Machines around the House

There are lots of different machines around the house that help us in the kitchen, the garage, the bathroom and bedroom.

We read about the Hungry Washing Machine. Then we made our own washing machines to make jumbled words.

We also read a funny book about watching too much TV called Square Eyes. We wrote our own TV stories and made sliding TV sets.

Farm Machines

We researched lots of different farm machines and created information reports.

2G read about how milk is collected at a dairy farm, carried away in a tanker and processed at a factory.

Before electric milking machines, people used to milk cows by hand. We read about Belinda the cow and then we made our own butter by shaking cream with a marble like an agitator.

Multiple Intelligence Machines

This term the grade 1s and 2s are learning about machines.

We started by investigating machines in different ways. We used calculators and computers to do some maths and research about machines, read lots of interesting information books, drew and painted pictures of our favourite machines, sang and danced to machine music, wrote about machines and got to take old machines apart to see how they work.
